Children
in Need was started by Reaching
Souls to give hope to an abandoned
generation through the love of
Christian homes.
“This is pure and
undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father,
to visit orphans . . .” James 1:27
For years we wept for Africa’s children. They are the
innocent victims of war, AIDS, malnutrition and
suffering. There are over 34 million orphans in Africa.
11 million have been orphaned by AIDS. In 1996 we turned
our weeping into action.
The traditional approach
to caring for orphans is to institutionalize them. We
wanted something better. Children in Need was born,
placing orphaned and abandoned children into Christian
homes under the supervision of Godly, faithful and
accountable pastors. We have rescued hundreds of orphans
since 1996, and with your help, we want to rescue many
more.
how children in need works
Orphans are the innocent victims of war, genocide,
famine, poverty and disease. They are unwanted and
abandoned, left to fend for themselves on the streets of
Africa and India’s major cities. The traditional
approach to caring for orphans is institutionalization,
but we believe there is a better way. Placing children
in institutions is not viable because of the sheer
numbers of needy children, the high costs of
constructing buildings, the difficulty and expense of
staffing, and holding those who care for the children
accountable to act in the best interest of the orphans.
Through our Children In Need program
Reaching Souls is laying the foundation for a Godly generation of African
men and women.
Campaign Goals

children by the year 2010.

An innovative solution was
needed, and Children in Need was born. Children in Need
is an efficient operation that is rescuing orphaned
children and raising them in Godly surroundings. The
strategy is smart, practical, and effective.
Reccomendations for aid are submitted by local African
church committees. After the child is accepted, they are
placed in a Godly home under the supervision of a
Reaching Souls trained pastor.
The pastor is responsible to personally purchase the
child’s provisions which includes food and a variety of
other needs that may arise in the life of each child
including school supplies, tuition fees, and medical
care.
The family caring for the child also receives
provisions. We purchase enough food to feed the orphan
and his or her entire adopted family. In this way, the
child is able to be a financial blessing to the family
instead of a financial burden.
The family and child attend a church pastored by a
Reaching Souls trained minister. In this way we are able
to see the child weekly and be sure they are receiving
the physical, emotional and spiritual care they need.
Reaching Souls is forming families of faith by placing
orphans in the homes of church members led by a ministry
trained pastor.
accountability
Accountability is very
important. We want to be sure each child is loved and
cared for. We also want to know that resources are being
spent wisely. For this reason, Reaching Souls’ trained
pastors see each child at least once per week and they
are also responsible for purchasing the items the child
needs. Every cent is accounted for by the pastor.
The vision
Our vision is to see a Godly generation raised up in
Africa. Children in Need is about more than providing
for a child’s livelihood. It is about investing in the
lives of these children so they will make a difference
for Christ in their own nations. We cannot abandon these
precious children or Africa’s future. They are a
strategic part of God’s plan to bring the Gospel to
their nations. There are millions of orphans in Africa,
and we are committed to caring for as many of them as we
can.
What makes children in need more effective than
traditional methods of caring for orphans?
The Lord has given us a unique and efficient way to help
meet the needs of orphaned and abandoned children in
Africa and India. A quick comparison of traditional
methods with Children In Need shows the benefits of
caring and supporting orphans in this manner.
