Fasting and Prayer Leads to 22 Salvation Decisions

The Viphya Mountain range dominates the landscape of Northern Malawi. It runs along the spine of the country, dividing it in two. It sheds water to the West into the Congo River Valley, and to the East into one of the world's most impressive bodies of water, Lake Malawi.

Massive tropical forests cover the slopes of the mountains. Natural and intimidating beauty surrounds tiny settlements and bustling villages dotted throughout the landscape. For most, it is a powerful, dangerous and exotic place. For Harry Luhanga, a Reaching Souls National Missionary, it is his pulpit and auditorium where he preaches the Gospel to all who will listen.

This day, Harry was planning to go to Balero. The highland village boasted a  bustling trading center and he knew it would be the perfect place to preach.

As he told friends of his plans to preach in Bolero, he received discouraging news. "Don't waste your time in Bolero," they said. "Nobody will listen to a preacher there. They don't care about the Gospel, and they won't care about you."

Harry decided to turn to the Lord, fasting and praying for a full day. He cried out to the Lord, asking Him to soften and open the hearts of the people of Balero to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
The next day he went to preach. Setting up his portable speaker in the middle of the trading center, he began to passionately share the Gospel. A crowd soon gathered. Hundreds listened to the message. As he invited those around to accept Christ, 22 people publicly acknowledged Jesus as Lord.

Harry is continuing his work in Northern Malawi, discipling these new believers and preaching the Gospel to all who will listen. His trip to Bolero further proved to him that it is the Lord who opens hearts, and calls the lost to Him.

National Missionary Profile: Harry Luhanga

Harry Luhanga is a 27 year old National Missionary in Malawi. He was saved at an open air meeting in 2000, and in 2002 he planted his first church.

In 2006 he joined this ministry. At the time he was already doing evangelistic work in 16 villages. He has been able to expand his work since receiving aid through Reaching Souls. Since joining the ministry, Harry has led an average of 106 people to Christ each month.
