One Orphan's Story

One of the highlights of my trip was meeting sweet Racheal Iramuha. Racheal is a 20 year-old orphan who has been receiving support from Reaching Souls for the last 8 years. Many people would want to see the little orphans and the preciousness of 4, 5, and 6 year-old boys and girls. I enjoy that as well, but, what really thrills me, is meeting the orphans who have grown up in our support program and you can see the difference the support has made. Racheal was so excited to meet a representative of the ministry that God has worked through to change her life. She gave me a great big hug and had a terrific smile. Racheal was living with her father when her father died in 2000. Her mother fell in a trench and broke her back. The mother is alive, but cannot move around very well or work. Racheal was saved when National Missionary, Richard Okowi, preached in her school in 2002. She loves composing Christian songs and gives God the glory for her Reaching Souls support. Racheal began studying at the University last month and is studying Hotel Management. She spoke of how the support helped to feed her and provided simple things like soap and blankets. I don’t think I have met someone whose gratefulness was so apparent through their eyes and sincere joy to meet someone face-to-face she could say thank you to. I was humbled and glad to be that person. I encouraged Racheal to always remember that it was the Lord who gave her the support and that He did it for a reason. I told her that there are many who do not receive anything, but the Lord deemed her special and she needed to find out His purpose for her life. We will support Racheal for one more year as she transitions into a new season in her life. And her replacement in the orphan support program has already been selected.

In 2009, Racheal wrote the ministry this note, “I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ...God has helped me now have finished form five and now I am joining my senior year in 2010. I am so happy for everything you have done for me especially the food, and all the good care you have been providing. May the almighty God surely bless you for the good work you are doing. Because, if it wasn’t for you who have been helping me, I would have not made it. Thank you so much. May my God continue using you and always protect you for the good work you’re doing. I really appreciate it.”

I will always remember Racheal, and I am grateful the Lord chose to care for her in this way and she has a bright future.
