Threatened by the
Sword: National Missionary shows Christ's love in the
face of danger
Mariani is a small village
in the Kilifi district of Kenya. It is the bush. Small,
sparsely populated areas share the landscape with wild
animals, wide plains and dense jungle. Most of the
people farm for a living. Very few receive any kind of
formal education.
Mariani is where Nathaniel and his wife Loice went.
Loice was born there, and it was their desire to preach
the
Gospel in her home village.
The weather was bright and sunny, and they decided to
start going door to door throughout the area. They
shared the Good News of Jesus Christ with each person
they met. Through this method, 58 people came to know
Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior in a few short
hours.
As they continued through the village, they arrived in
front of a home with several people standing outside.
Loice and Nathaniel walked up and introduced themselves.
Loice began to share her testimony.
"You!" a booming voice shouted. "Why are you here? Where
are you from?"
Nathaniel and Loice turned around to see a man coming
from the house, sword in hand. The sword was a
traditional panga blade used for centuries by the tribes
in the area.
"We are from Malindi and we have come to tell people
about Jesus," replied Nathaniel.
"Well I am a Muslim, and you must leave immediately, or
I'm going to have to make you leave," was the answer

they received.
Nathaniel pulled Loice close and prayed over the Muslim
man and those standing around.
"We need to go," he said to the man with the sword, "but
you should know that God loves you."
Two days later it was Sunday. As Nathaniel prepared to
worship, he was shocked to see the Muslim man who had
warned him off with a sword, walk into the little mud
brick church with his family in tow.
"Hello preacher," he said. "My name is Biyaa. I have had
no peace since I chased you from my home. Can you tell
me about Jesus?"
Nathaniel shared the Good News of Jesus Christ to Biyaa
and his family, and one by one they accepted Him as
their Savior that day.
In the letter telling us this testimony, Nathaniel said,
"All praise be unto God, for He is worthy."

National Missionary
Nathan Charo is from Milindi, Kenya. |
The testimony you just read
was one sent to us by Nathaniel Charo, a Reaching Souls National
Missionary in Milindi, Kenya.
He has been a National
Missionary with Reaching Souls International since 2002.
He was born into a pagan family, deeply steeped in the
traditional tribal religions of the area. He aspired to
be a priest in the tribe and yearned to be a leader. A
serious accident led him to seek treatment from the
local witch doctor, and when the witch doctor could do
nothing to help with his medical issues, he realized
that it was all a fraud.
In 1989 he was working as a bartender when he was led to
the Lord by evangelists doing house to house ministry.
He began to seek the Lord earnestly and led his family
to Christ. His heart for evangelism led him to start
holding open air meetings and witnessing house to house.
Eventually he was led to Reaching Souls and applied for
assistance.
In 2006, Nathaniel personally led 1,689 people to Jesus
Christ.
